What is TDG training, and who needs it?

Transportation of Dangerous Goods (TDG) training is required for anyone handling, offering for transport, or transporting dangerous goods in Canada. This includes truck drivers, shippers, receivers, warehouse workers, and employees preparing shipping documents.

TDG training is legally mandated under the Transportation of Dangerous Goods Act and Regulations to ensure individuals understand proper handling, labeling, and emergency response procedures for hazardous materials.

What’s the difference between TDG Online Training and role-specific TDG Competency-Based Training?

1. TDG Online Training – Our classic, trusted TDG course designed to meet the general compliance requirements of Part 6 of the TDG Regulations. This training is suitable for all roles and industries.

2. TDG Competency-Based Training – A more advanced, role-specific training program designed to assess real-world skills and job-specific TDG responsibilities. After completing the final exam, learners must pass competency-based assessments to prove they can apply TDG principles in actual workplace scenarios.

How long is a TDG Certification valid for?

Under the TDG Regulations, TDG certification is valid for three years. After this period, retraining is required to stay compliant with Transport Canada regulations.

Exception: If you are handling or transporting dangerous goods by air, TDG training is only valid for two years under IATA (International Air Transport Association) regulations.

Does my employer need to sign my TDG training certificate?

Yes. A valid TDG training certificate must be signed by:
✔ The employee and their employer (or an authorized representative of the employer).
✔ Self-employed workers must sign their own certificate.

This is a Transport Canada requirement to ensure accountability and regulatory compliance.

Is Danatec’s TDG training recognized across Canada?

Yes! Danatec’s TDG courses are nationally recognized and fully compliant with Transport Canada regulations. Our training has been trusted by Canadian industries for over 30 years, making it the #1 choice for individual learners, safety managers, and businesses needing TDG certification.
