RSTS - M24 - Working Safely Around Traffic
Conflict between workers and motorists, work vehicles or mobile equipment driving through work zones pose some of the highest risks to workers in the road building and heavy construction industries. This course teaches how to work safely around traffic from the perspective of traffic control personnel, ground workers, and heavy equipment operators. The requirement to create, follow and understand the traffic control plan, safe work zone set-up and take down procedures, the critical aspects of traffic awareness and how to plan a proper escape route are discussed. The learner is provided with safe work practices for the following specialized work situations: working in low visibility, loading and unloading equipment, and operating equipment next to traffic. At the completion of this course, the learner will be able to identify the hazards and manage the risks of working around traffic.
This course is intended for anyone who works in proximity to traffic – traffic control persons, work crews, landscapers, surveyors, testing personnel, heavy equipment operators and truck drivers. The course content includes real worksite video with key concepts and terms reinforced by text and imagery, interactive graphics and quizzes throughout based on on-the-job scenarios. There is a final exam with an 80% pass rate required to complete the course and obtain the certificate.
