RSTS - M15 - Crushing and Washing
A crushing and washing plant crushes rock into gravel and sand or "aggregate" to be used in various applications such as concrete and asphalt production, road building, construction and landscaping. Depending on the final use of the product, some aggregate will be washed at the plant and other left unwashed. The production of aggregate involves heavy mobile equipment, large plant machinery, and exposure to hazardous materials including silica dust. This course identifies the many safety concerns associated with a crushing and washing plant and the safe working procedures that the learner should be aware of. A thorough review of the process and machinery involved to produce aggregate from raw pit to loading finished product is discussed and the hazards involved in this work.
This course is intended for anyone who works at a crushing and washing plant – plant operators, plant workers, heavy equipment operators and aggregate truck drivers. The course content includes real worksite video with key concepts, equipment and terms reinforced by text and imagery and quizzes throughout based on on-the-job scenarios. There is a final exam with an 80% pass rate required to complete the course and obtain the certificate.
