Mentally Active Driving Program (Blended)

Description
This program is specially designed to meet the needs of Energy Sector drivers. This blended training program is designed for companies and drivers who want to balance rich training and hands-on experience with budget demands. Students:
Learn the latest in Defensive Driving theory by completing the mandatory prerequisite: Online Defensive Driving – Condensed Version, then
Participate in a 2-hour practical, hands-on, in-vehicle training that reinforces good driving habits and skills. As well as 1 on 1 driving time in FSI’s specially designed Skid Vehicle.
Prerequisite: Registrants will automatically receive a license to the online training upon registration and payment for the course. This online training must be completed before the scheduled in-vehicle training session.
STUDENT REQUIREMENTS TO ATTEND THS CLASS: Valid driver's license (no copies or photos, the original card must be provided), eyeglasses/contact lenses, valid registration & insurance in the vehicle (commercial), proper driving footwear (no flip flops, sandals or heels).

Course Outline
Part 1 of Training: Online Defensive Driving Course – Condensed
This mandatory 3-hour prerequisite training explores the components of the SAFER System of defensive driving: Space, Attitude, Foresight, Eyesight, and Responsibility. This program was developed for drivers in Canada by Dr. Randy Flemmer who has over 30 years of driver education and fleet safety experience. Key topics include:

- SAFER system of defensive driving

- Backing
- Intersections
- Advanced driving
- Ditch entry and recovery

This online training must be completed prior to the scheduled in-vehicle training session, or the session will be rescheduled.
Part 2 of Training: Mentally Active Driving Course
This 2-hour in vehicle -driving program is specially designed to meet the needs of corporations that have employees driving as part of their job description. Most of this training is done in the learner's own vehicle, an SUV or truck is recommended as the track is gravel. In this training, students will practice:

- Commentary Driving
- Gravel Road Skill Building
- Braking on gravel
- Steering on gravel
- Swerving on gravel
- Cornering on gravel
- Skid Control Collision
- Avoidance Braking (Progressive squeeze and Anti-lock)
