RSTS - M19 - Asphalt Plants
Asphalt is a composite material that is used worldwide for road building, infrastructure and recreation construction. Asphalt is manufactured at a plant, transported at very high temperatures and becomes a hard surface when cooled. The production of asphalt is a hazardous operation that involves heavy mobile equipment, large plant machinery and many types of specialized work, including working with conveyors, working at heights and confined space work. This course educates the learner on the many hazards associated with asphalt plants and how asphalt can be produced safely. It discusses the material composition of asphalt, the different types of plants, the production process, as well as controls and emergency procedures to keep the learner and others safe on site.
This course is intended for anyone who works at an asphalt plant – plant operators, plant workers, heavy equipment operators, asphalt truck drivers, or anyone who works with asphalt in construction. The course content includes real worksite video with key concepts, equipment and terms reinforced by text and imagery and quizzes throughout based on on-the-job scenarios. There is a final exam with an 80% pass rate required to complete the course and obtain the certificate.
